About

Brenna Meyer was born in 1995 in DeKalb, Illinois. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University and majored in Illustration. She chose illustration because cartoons have always been a big part of her life and she hopes to create her own someday.

My work explores the contradictions that appear in life and fantasy, the discomfort that comes in contrasts, and I expand on ideas that others may find difficult.  I find humor in the dark and scary, especially with things like political events. A pervasive theme I work with is the idea of fragmented people—everyone has experienced some trauma or heartbreak moment that left them feeling less than whole and I try to find ways of showing that in my art. I think it's very important to understand what goes on in our world and be able to process it in new and creative ways through humor, tragedy and how they relate to each other.
